For a while now, I've been doing research and works on why Google indexes topics with the p parameter. I think I found the culprit-maybe,i'm not sure. In all feeds, including New Topics, the p parameter is used instead of the topic parameter t for a topic. I think it does this for the first post. I think the t parameter should be used. At least that should be the case for topics.
