Adding a user as a friend doesn't actually do anything practical. I propose adding a new notification for when a friend of a user posts new content. The user should be notified (with the standard choices of notification, email etc...) about the new content so they can view it.

This would add a little bit of extra functionality into the friend or foe feature and essentially turn the friend option into a user subscribe feature (like a follower on social media).
