To conserve bandwidth and processing time, many Atom readers support the use of the HTTP If-Modified-Since header (as defined in 14.25 of RFC2616). When the client sends this header in the HTTP request for the Atom feed, if the feed has not been updated since the specified time, it would be nice to respond with HTTP Status Code 304 to spare the bandwidth and the client XML processing time to parse the response.
