should banning users delete their posts in the moderaton queue?

in the acp there is a checkbox to ban a user and delete their posts or to ban them and preserve their posts. but what about for moderators doing the banning in the mcp? i do not see why someone who posted twenty spam messages should have to be banned and have their posts deleted in potentially quite a few steps (twenty spam messages may span multiple pages).
