Quotes starting with a smilie show smilie code instead

I can reproduce this every time. Create a post starting with a smilie on the first line. Then quote that post - the second post won't display the initial smilie, but displays the smilie code instead. By putting a space between the [quote] tag and the smilie, all is well and the smilie is displayed correctly.
