These elements of phpBB's template syntax are hardly used anymore and will most likely be used incorrectly and have a high potential to be misused as well. With the concept of moving HTML out of PHP files we should also aim at not having any PHP in HTML files. Therefore this should be deprecated and removed as a whole in phpBB 4.0.
