MSNM / WLM closing - redundant profile field

      Description

As per: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-20222998 , Microsoft has announced Windows Live Messenger is to be closed in March 2013. Obviously phpBB makes reference to this service by way of a profile field. It would look rather silly to continue shipping phpBB with the profile field still there even though the service would no longer exist.

Suggestion is to simply remove the msnm/wlm profile field altogether, and perhaps replace with modern alternatives: Twitter, Facebook, Skype etc.

I think ICQ is not used very often anymore aswell.
I don't know any users of Yahoo and AOL aswell, but they were never used in Europe very much.

Can you please post a topic in the RFC forum for 3.1?

Certainly. Cross-linked to RFC in first ticket post.

For develop I'd suggest removing all of those fields and replacing them with custom profile fields. This might require making the custom profile field framework a bit more powerful.

There is also the question of what to do with 3.0.x, but it's probably okay to do nothing at all for 3.0.x.

I agree with Andreas. I would keep the current ones as default Custom Profile Fields (and maybe add some newer services as defaults). The board admin can disable those that he doesn't find useful.

The original report is also a bit misleading. Microsoft isn't completely discontinuing WLM. From the article: "Microsoft said Windows Live Messenger (WLM) would be turned off by March 2013 worldwide, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF CHINA." (Emphasis added.) As China is a fairly large market, I would NOT delete WLM yet.

Is going to be obsoleted by the swap to CPF.
One can simply disable it in the ACP then.
